USA's new president

I think the US were wise in their selection of a new president. After two periods with George W. Bush in the presidential seat, a newcomer is welcomed. Bush is not particularly popular among Americans today, and one of the most important abilities a president can have, is the ability to gain trust among the people. Barack Obama has showed us that he has this ability. Among many others. Through the entire campaign he has showed us that he is an excellent rhetorician, where he gives speeches like no one else can. He has the ability to make people listen, to really hear what he says, and remember.

Also he is much more liberal than earlier presidents. He will govern the US in a new way, and still not abandon the old, American traditions completely. Another point worth mentioning, is the matter of fact that he is black. That is not a big deal in the first place, but when it comes to presidency it is a milestone. He is the first black president, and I think that will help eliminate the racial issues still existing in the US today. Also I hope that Obama will stop leading this aggressive foreign policies as Bush has done, and also make USA participate in saving the environment.

US FOREIGN POLICY

I think the way the US is acting now, especially after 9/11, with a focus on preventing terrorism from taking place, is wise in the first place. However, as a consequence, USA is also acting like a world police. Of course, it is the only superpower in the world, and they have all means necessary to invade and take control over whatever country they feel is a threat to their safety, but that doesn't mean they have to use it. At least not use it without enough evidence. When they invaded Iraq 5 years ago, I remember the first think that came to my mind, was why. I learned what the government had told the world, about the "weapons of mass destruction" and Saddam Hussein's support to terrorism. Some people have had their lives turned upside down the last few years, and for some it eventually had a good outcome. Unfortunately not for all. Some claim the hole act from the US, was in vain, and did nothing good to the country.

In the first place, preventing terrorism is a good thing to do, of course, but that doesn't mean the US can invade other countries, claiming that the country have weapons of mass destruction, without enough evidence. By the looks of it, it seems the US are marching through one nation after another, conquering it all. That is not the way I think USA wants us to look upon the nation, although they give us few other choices.
